Mahdi ROM for Galaxy S4! [Android 4.4.4/STABLE]

Based on latest Android 4.4.4, Mahdi ROM is a new custom AOSP ROM  on the market that brings ultimate performance tweaks along with many customizations. You will get a speedy ROM with a custom kernel that has tweaked governor for added performance/battery life.

I know some of you were having trouble with CM11 ROM last week and since CM11 ROMs are usually works in progress, you may see more bugs until they release stable releases.  Mahdi ROM releases are stable versions so you probably will get much less bugs if any.  Also, Sprint users were having trouble with CM11 last week, Mahdi ROM works flawless on my Sprint S4 as shown in video.

What I really like about Mahdi ROM is speed and performance out of the box without sacrificing battery life.  It’s definitely on on my priority list of go-to ROMs right now.  I first started using on my Nexus 5 and it was one of the fastest custom ROMs for it.  Luckily, Galaxy S4 is actually one of the phones Madhi ROM Team supports right now and you can get it if you have a Qualcomm-based S4 like AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Canadian, and GT-i9505.

Mahdi ROM also has plenty of customization/features including PIE Controls, Screen recording, On-The-Go Mode, Immersive mode, Lockscreen notifications, Shake events (for both lockscreen and whole phone), floating Window, and more.

And yes, I get this question all the time but WiFi tethering works out of the box for all carriers on AOSP ROMs.  That’s a given for all AOSP ROMs so you should not worry about that.

Overall, I really, really, really dig Mahdi ROM.  A new custom ROM on the Galaxy S4 market right now and they are doing many things right, bringing users stable, fast custom ROM with great battery life/features.  So if you are in town for one of the fastest Android 4.4.4 ROMs, give this ROM a test drive over the week(end) and do let me know how much you like it!

AICP ROM for Galaxy S4!

Based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, AICP ROM is an AOSP ROM (What is AOSP?) featuring full AOKP ROM Control Settings along with other AOSP features.

Some notable AOSP features include OmniSwitch, custom animations, Active Display, custom tile colors, Appbar, Gesture Anywhere, Connection Manager, and some more.

Also included is the latest Google camera, which is 100% working on this ROM along with PhotoSphere and Panorama feature.

I’ve been following AICP ROM for quite awhile now and have to say that their latest releases have been nearly perfect in terms of speed, battery life, and performance.  If you are looking for the best AOSP ROM “right now”, this could definitely be it so give it a test drive over the week(end) and do let me know what you think!

Hassan ROM with Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Galaxy S4 GT-i9500!

Based on latest Android 4.4.2 TouchWiz Samsung firmware, Hassan ROM aims to bring a sleek S5-style interface/UI along with boosted performance and bloatware-free environment.

First, with Hassan ROM, you will be able to experience what’s coming up with the latest Galaxy S5 through its modded S5 UI, S5 icons, and even S5 apps pulled from a real S5 such as S Note, S Translator, and calculator.

Root Method for this new release (Tested and worked flaweslly on Russia SER I9500XXUFNB3 released today 20/02/2014)

After you fresh install the rom you need to deknox your phone otherwise it wont work. So here we go.

1) Go and Download the " philz_touch_6.12.8-i9500.tar.md5 "

Install latest "philz_touch_6.12.8-i9500" via ODIN 1.85 Odin 1.85 For Rooting

Now go to the Philz recovery you just installed with odin..

-Flash the Deknox Removal Script <-- Click Here to direct download (VIA RECOVERY)

After you flash the Knox removal script you are ready to go rooting your device.
Now go to
-Philz Options / Choose Re-root system / Choose Yes Apply (SuperSu)
-Wait until it finish, Reboot and install SuperSu from playstore
-Once installed, Open SuperSu app / It will ask you to update binaries click on Update as normal (NOT TWRP)
-Once binaries are installed reboot your device
-Root done.

Google Play Edition ROM with Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Verizon Galaxy S4!

Check out the ported version of Google Play Edition ROM with latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

This ported version (from GT-i9505) brings you a great deal of speed (through GPE AND KTweaker kernel) along with “pure” Google experience.  Everything is working out of the box including data (to get 4G LTE working fully, dial “*#*#4636#*#*” then choose “LTE/CDMA/GSM”), Photosphere camera, and no additives added other than highly-tweakable KTweaker kernel, which comes with KTweaker app so you can easily overclock and undervolt your CPU/GPU.

For overclocking your CPU/GPU, I recommend around 2.106Ghz most for CPU and 600Mhz for the GPU.  You can also undervolt higher frequencies slightly to get great speeds with great battery life (see video above for example on that).

Overall, Google Play Edition ROM isn’t full of AOKP ROM Control-like customization, then again it is super stable with lots of raw speed that’s going to make TouchWiz look like a baby crawling vs. an electric Tesla, what this ROM is like.

How to Root Galaxy S4 Active!

Before we begin, this root method is for the latest firmware ending in UCUAMF3 (check this under Settings->About device).  If you have a newer firmware, this root method may or may not work.

To root your Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, simply download the APK file geohot.com/activeroot and install the app.

Once that app has been installed, simply open the app and your phone should have root.  Now, this will install the root/SU binaries, you still need to download and install SuperSU app from Play Store to get full root acess to your apps.

So, go ahead and download the latest SuperSU app and when it asks you to update binaries, simply do so and you should have a 100% rooted Galaxy S4 Active.

Now, once rooted, you will get a bunch of security warnings, simply use ES File Explorer to rename KNOXAgent.apk and KNOXAgent.odex to KNOXAgent.apk2 and KNOXAgent.odex2.

Omni ROM Android 4.4.2 for Galaxy S4! [AT&T/T-Mobile/Sprint/Verizon/GT-i9505/Canadian]

Based on latest Android 4.4.2, Omni ROM brings you the best and latest Android plus some customization you can do including screen recording, one of the major features of Omni ROM.  (You can already do it with screen recording apps but this one is integrated into the ROM.)  Of course, Android 4.3/4.3.1 custom ROMs still feature more customization than Android 4.4 KitKat ROMs and if you need a lot of customization, we suggest you to look for older 4.3 Jelly Bean ROMs.

Omni ROM now offers notification count, network speed indicator, and network activity indicator for customizing your status bar.  Also screenshot and screen recording can be enabled for your power menu.

CM11 ROM with Android 4.4.2 for Galaxy S4 GT-i9500!

For those of you with GT-i9500 Galaxy S4, your long wait is over for Android 4.4 KitKat.  Although there were many beta builds available since Android 4.4 KitKat came out, there hasn’t been one yet stable enough to run as daily driver.

Well, CM11 ROM is still experimental but everything is working out of the box except video camcorder, wifi tether, and some issues with calls.  That might be a deal breaker for some of you but the latest CM11 ROM packs Android 4.4.2 along with very zippy speeds and all the KitKat goodness baked in.

It shouldn’t be too long before the bugs are fixed but in the meanwhile, you can always take a test drive by making a backup ROM of your current ROM, try it, then revert back.  So, if you have been itching for Android 4.4 KitKat bars, definitely give the CM11 ROM a try this week(end) and do let me know what you think!
